He has no answer that is correct, but that doesn't matter and is just you faliing into the fallacy of the Red Herring. Remember, the Halting Problem isn't asking H what answer it can give to be correct, it is ask what answer about the Halting of the machine described by the input. That doesn't directly depend on H, only by what H will return to D, so the pathology is broken. H i just stuck being wrong, either by giving the wrong answer or by not answering. > > The concept of undecidability would presume that there must be something > wrong with you rather than something wrong with the question. > > Is there something wrong with you or is the question incorrect? > The Question is incorrect, because it has nothing to do with the Halting Problem. Jack has free-will, and his answer hasn't been determined yet, so he can get into the self-contradiction. He has the power to try to be correct, and that leads to the problem. H is a defined computation, so its answer is FIXED and can't change, so there is no "self-cotradiction" only being wrong. It has no option to "try to be correct", as its answer was fixed when its code was written. You use logic of it behaving differently then it does, but that is nonsense, as a program will ALWAYS behave the way it is programmed (the logic doesn't support the concept of hardware errors). The contradiction you are looking at can only happen BEFORE you actually have an actual program H, when looking at how to design a correct H. Yes, then YOU as the programmer are faced the same problem as Jack, there is no program you can make to give the right answer. Your confusion is you misunderstand this state to indicate that if you do create a program, there isn't a right answer for the machine generated by it, but there is. Just like if Jack actually DOES answer, he will be wrong. If you try to make an H, it will be wrong. But in both cases, there IS a right answer that someone else could give. If I could know that Jack is going to say "No", then I can correctly answer "Yes". WIth Jack, I need to somehow be able to predict what he will do (or have him tell me). With H, once you create the H, I can figure out the answer, because I know H will be wrong.
