Üblicherweise leuchtet den Menschen, die sich mit diesen Dingen ernsthaft beschäftigen (oder beschäftigen müssen), die folgende einfache Erläuterung durchaus ein:
1 ist kein Element des Endsegments {2, 3, 4, ...}, 2 kein Element des Endsegments {3, 4, 5, ...}, 3 kein Element des Endsegments {4, 5, 6, ...}, usw. Allgemein gilt für jede natürliche Zahl n: n ist kein Element des Endsegments {n+1, n+2, n+3, ...}. Mit anderen Worten, zu jeder natürlichen Zahl n gibt es ein Endsegment, nämlich {n+1, n+2, n+3, ...} in dem n nicht als Element enthalten ist. Mithin gibt es also keine natürliche Zahl, die in *allen* Endsegmenten als Element enthalten ist. Also ist die Schnittmenge (der Menge) aller Endsegmente leer.
Genau genommen ist das auch schon der Beweis für die Behauptung:
