SubjectBug#1058265: Status of sqlalchemy
Message-ID<Iadfz-bPa4-1@gated-at.bofh.it>
Hi,

we have quite some Python3.12 related bugs caused by sqlalchemy which
seem to be fixed in experimental (which is lagging behind upstream
2.0.27 as well as version 1.4 in unstable where upstream just released
1.4.51).

It seems the issue that leads to bug #1058265

  > File "/usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/sqlalchemy/sql/sqltypes.py", line 2061, in Interval
  > epoch = dt.datetime.utcfromtimestamp(0)

is not fixed in 1.4.51 so sticking to 1.4 maintenance releases will not
simply solve our Python3.12 issues if we do not fix these ourselves with
patches. So the question remains for Thomas wo wrote in bug #1058895:

 > It'd be nice if we could have the patch in Unstable with this series 1.4.x
 > before uploading 2.x, so that I have a chance to fix all Python 3.12 bugs and
 > not mix SQLA 2.x and Py 3.12 problems.

Do yuo really want to fix 1.4.x (maybe x=51) first or do we want to
switch to 2.0.27 and fix remaining problems with this latest version? I
have no resources to run all the tests but I stumbled upon this question
when trying to do some general Python3.12 bug hunting.

Kind regards
    Andreas.

Hi,

are there any news regarding the status of sqlalchemy?
I'm curious, because the next version of gajim will depend on
sqlalchemy >= 2, which is only in experimental right now.

Cheers

Life is better when one does not have to deal with modbus :-)
This package is outdated and need a refresh.

Yes!

As I see, you already pushed a new upstream to git in January/February,
but did not yet upload the package. Are there any blockers? It looks
like all but one of the debian/patches are obsolete now?

Hi,

I ll check back home, but it's most likely I was waiting for SQLAlchemy
2.xx.

I know for share that one package does wait for SA 2.xx but can t remember
which one.

Sure

It seems, that *two* patches need to stay, but need work:

1. privacy-breach-fixes.patch (I updated this, can push later)

2. disable-failing-unittests.patch (needs more work, don't hold your breath)

There are also two (?) new build-depends. Again, I can push later.

debian/rules needs a minor PYTHONPATH fix. Will push when back home ;-)

Cheers

These ones are annoying to maintain. I wish dh_installdocs would be smart
enough to strip these tiny widget that are present in so many Readme.md on
GitHub. They re quite formulaic and it could be done with a regexp (but dh
is in Perl 😢).

Thanks

Hi Alexandre,

I pushed my changes to debian/master. If you have time to work on
pymodbus (e.g. update disable-failing-unittests.patch), please go on.
I probably can't work on that this week.

Cheers

helper.py is not so helpful (and not even used in test/conftest.py ?)
anyway it builds now but maybe upstream would accept a patch
to help reduce the downstream patch
(maybe read certificates location from env variable, this needs more eyes)

It's almost done.

Greetings

Hi,

I finally got it working here ! For a very short time.
Then it breaks again with today's new Pytest.

https://salsa.debian.org/python-team/packages/pymodbus/-/jobs/5780102
-> "test" branch.
https://github.com/pytest-dev/pytest/issues/12269

It needs a new pytest-asyncio ...
  https://tracker.debian.org/pkg/python-pytest-asyncio

I look at it.

Greetings

I'll check, if I can update pymodbus, which is some versions behind
upstream. Maybe that already fixes things.

I don't know about the other two: I feel uneasy to break them, but we
need SQLAlchemy 2.x anyway, looks like 1.x is not supported anymore.

If nobody objects (or is faster than me), I'll upload SQLAlchemy 2.x
to unstable in a couple of days or weeks. No hurry from my side.

Cheers

sqlalchemy 2.X currently FTBFS due to a segmentation fault (3.11 and
