Relying on prudent admins, instead of safe by design, explains where the
industry is in terms of security. But I'll admit that blowing the stack is
low on the list of things to freak out over, especially given the behavior
on most systems is to safely terminate. And if a recursive algorithm is much
simpler and easier to code safely, it's a compromise I'd make, everything
else being equal.
