Hi Most of my photographs are now in 'Photos' However, I do have many photographs/pictures in my 'Pictures' folder which are NOT yet in Photos. Is there a simple way to put them there? -- iMac OS X El Capitan

Grrr! If for some reason "Drag and Drop" isn't working for you just try "Import" in Photos. With Photos open go to File->Import. From the import dialog navigate to the folder which contains the image files you want to import. Select the files and go through the final import steps in the dialog. -- Regards, Savageduck

Grrr! Where, specifically, are you trying to drop them within the Photos window? There are several places that will accept dragged photos, and you can tell which items accept drags by simply observing the way they highlight while you are dragging them. If you are relatively new to Macs or inexperienced, this may not occur to you immediately; but it makes perfect sense once you make the observation. And it applies to most Mac apps. Here are some ways: 1. Drag them into the "Photos" item at the top of the sidebar on the left side of the Photos window. You will see it highlight when you hover over it while dragging. Once it's highlighted, let go of the mouse button. 2. Drag them into any album in the sidebar that is not a "smart album". This includes "All Photos" or any album you have specifically created, but *not* the special albums: Faces, My Photo Stream, Selfies, Panoramas, Videos, Screenshots, and Recently Deleted albums. 3. With any album (or the top-level "Photos" item in the sidebar selected, drag them into the big area on the right side of the window to add them to that album. 4. Drag them into the Photos icon on the Dock at the bottom of the screen (or on the side if you moved the Dock). -- E-mail sent to this address may be devoured by my ravenous SPAM filter. Sadly, nothing worked. :-( So, falling back on past experience (limited!) I ran First Aid from the Disk Utility and then shut down my machine. After making a coffee, I restarted my iMac and booted into Safe Mode. I tried moving Photos as you described ...... and I COULD do it! :-D When I restarted my computer I found that I could STILL drag and drop my photos from my 'Pictures' folder (is it called a folder on a Mac???) I've no idea at all what might have been amiss. Anyway, job done. Thank you for your help. -- David B.

Thank you for your help. Very interesting. It's possible Photos or Finder was in a bad state that restarting was able to reset. Probably just a glitch! Using THIS one though, when I click on 'SHARED' I cannot see anything other than big grey boxes. Ine has a cicle with an '>' in it. When clicked, it opened up a video which DID work. I'm a bit baffled, but remember THIS 'persona' was imported from a Time Machine backup a few weeks ago! ;-) If you or anyone else has any bright ideas, please let me know. My apology for doubting you. In previous flavors of OS X in First Aid there WAS a 'Repair' button. Now there is not. Have you ever SEEN an instance of 'repair' in El Capitan? How's that for a bright idea? You got 'em goin' so milk it again. And a high five to all you others who respond. These threads double to quadruple the newsgroup activity, so go for it! Otherwise, this newsgroup would die from boredom. The OS is tight. The iOS is tight. Anything of interest is arcane or happening during transitional periods for either OS. I love this group! leo

Brian Clark made it largely unavailable in the mid-00s because it was (surprise!) so widely pirated. To get a copy updated for Lion or Mountain Lion (and prior), you had to email him and beg to be given the opportunity to purchase a license. He'd respond with a very odd and cynical mail saying that you aren't serious and you really shouldn't try to get Thoth. But the PayPal door was left open, so if you could get past all the negativity, you could purchase a copy and get sporadic updates, always accompanied by the most morose, whiny prose." https://www.reddit.com/r/usenet/comments/1f524i/no_thoth_3_thoth_development_to_shut_down/ -- "Do something wonderful, people may imitate it."
