I recently updated a mac mini server to 10.12.3 and enabled File Vault
on it. After progressing very slowly, it has been stuck at 40% for three
days.

The instructions that I found online to undo the encryption do not work
(There is no option int he file menu of the Recovery Partition's Disk
Utility to do this).

The system is a mid-2010 Mac mini server, and the online diagnostics
(opt-D) say it is unsupported and I cannot get the machine to boot into
regular diagnostics mode (D) even with an Apple keyboard connected.

I am probably going to swap the drive for an SSD anyway, considering how
slow it's been, but I'd like to have the boot drive in a stable state
first.

Also, quick question, is "Upper" bay the one closest to the top of the
machine (that is, the lowest one when replacing drives) or the one
closest to the motherboard (the first drive you get to when taking the
machine apart)?
