Is there such a thing as a troll? I've never seen one, just people > calling everyone else a troll because they're in disagreement with them. I generally refer to those who troll as that -- those who troll. I will point out and respond to their trolling and note specific claims which are obvious lies, but I rarely engage in name calling and say someone IS a troll or IS a liar (though there are some exceptions). As much as I prefer to talk about tech, I openly admit I spend a lot of my posts responding to trolling. My first degree was in psychology (just a bachelors, not anything big) and I find the cult-like mentality of COLA to be interesting. While there are some religious and even political groups where I have seen things close to this, I sincerely know of no open group which is as cult-like as COLA. Post there for a bit: you will be accused of being someone's sock (likely mine... and ongoing gag is how everyone is me), and if you speak of how you find a weakness in Linux, even if you like it, you will be attacked (unless you have made it through their lengthy initiation or are actively attacking those consider to be "false" Linux users). Even with my openly speaking about this they sincerely cannot stop themselves. They have tied their egos to Linux and any sign of a weakness in Linux they take as a personal attack. They also will insist if you use another OS that you must be as tied to the same way, and make claims that if you cannot do some task that the OS itself cannot handle it (this as made even in relation to a script someone had started something like a year before that was tied to a VPN service he used and paid for and would not work without such a service... and would apparently work unmodified on macOS or almost any other UNIX). It really is an interesting insight into group-think and cultish behavior. -- Personal attacks from those who troll show their own insecurity. They cannot use reason to show the message to be wrong so they try to feel somehow superior by attacking the messenger. They cling to their attacks and ignore the message time and time again. <https://youtu.be/H4NW-Cqh308>
