and to fertilize those seeds is apple's bitcode, where apps downloaded
from the app store can be recompiled to another architecture on the
fly.

nextstep was running on intel in the early 90s, long before apple had
anything to do with it. nextstep ran on several architectures.

after apple bought next, they added powerpc (which they obviously had
to) while keeping intel going, 'because it's good to have options'.

more likely, the retina macbook.

i'm thinking sooner than that, likely at next year's wwdc, alongside
the first hardware to use the new apple file system.

yep, and not just intel's margins, but to no longer be tied to intel's
schedule or road map.
