The iPad is meant to be the "post-PC era" device. 

Of course, they said the internet would kill off printed newspapers and
ebooks would kill off printed books, yet both "old tech" options are
still going strong.

The cassette tape, CD, and downloads / streaming were all meant to kill
off vinyl, yet recently LP records are becoming more and more popular
again.
