That is excessive and poor memory management, if that is the way you like to work, it is not an efficient method or work flow. Even if I work with multiple layers, I complete the intermediate adjustments and move on. Each of the completed layers is self contained and replaceable, there is no need to access them via History. I currently have my performance preferences set at 50 History States, and I seldom need to access any of those. When I do, it is unusual to go deeper than 10 to 20 States. > I hope that when I get my three-terabyte drive installed in a couple of > days (replacing my one-terabyte drive) I'll be able to contiue with my > memory-intensive Photoshop image edting, without the Mac slowing so > much. How much RAM do you have assigned to PS? Having a fatter HDD is just going to mean more writing to your assigned scratch disc/partition, and that is going to be limited by the speed of the HDD. You will see little improvement over the performance you are currently experiencing. Without sufficient RAM assigned you will still have the same number of write/read cycles to the HDD regardless of the size of the HDD. If you are not going to change your inefficient workflow to something more sensible, and you want to perceptually speed things up for yourself, do two things: 1: Get more RAM and assign a disproportionate amount to PS. (I have 16 GB on this Mac with 10246 MB allocated to PS). 2: Get an SSD to allocate as a dedicated scratch disc. ...but I would start by adjusting your History States from your insane 200 to a more reasonable 50. -- Regards, Savageduck
