A repeater usually isn't a good idea. Since it "repeats" the signal, it
broadcasts it in all directions, including back at the original
modem-router. This causes duplication of network data packets and slows
the network down.

A second router set to use a separate network is slightly better, but
can still cause interference for both wi-fi networks.

Usually the best idea is to either move the wi-fi router to a better
location, or use a wired network for at least some of your devices (for
example, you can turn off the wi-fi on the original router and wire it
up to desktop computer and to a second router in a better location
which does have wi-fi turned on.

For the wiring, you can use the building's internal power wires with
appropriate adapters, but it's not as fast as real ethernet cabling.
