there have been many, many versions of a macbook pro.

under the apple menu, choose about this mac, then report back what mac
it is and what system is on there.

then why do they care about updating? they won't notice a difference
and will probably complain that things changed.

it's very easy.

an apple id is not required for system updates.

if it said no updates, then that's probably true. see above for mac
model & system version.

that part is good.

you first need to find out what they have.

if they're anywhere near an apple store, have them take the macbook
there and they'll take care of everything, entirely for free.
