Keynote is great if you're presenting with your own / known equipment,
but a lot of big places won't let you use you're own equipment and
insist on using their devices, which means Keynote can't really be used
(unless you're making extremely simple presentations that can easily be
saved as PowerPoint documents).

The problem with Word is that it's so incredibly buggy. Every version I
ever used suffers the same issue - you set up the styling how you want
(font, size, style, etc.), but when you edit it, deleting stuff often
causes the crap to change those to whatever it feels like.  X-( My
guess would be that the underlying page-markup system is so
disgustingly bad and messy that Word can't work out what you want - you
sometimes get the same issue in WYSIWYG website software.
