I have a friend who arrived here in Israel with a brand new Mac laptop 
running 10.8. They would like to be able to use it to receive the 
local TV broadcasts. 

The broadcasts are transmitted using the DVB-T system. Windows USB dongles
for DVB-T sell for as little as $10 on eBay, and $20 locally. 

There does not seem to be sold here any for the Mac at all.

The best solution, IMHO would be a driver for the  RTL2832U chipset with
either an E4000 or R820 tuner (both sell for under $20) and VLC support
for them.

VLC will tune and decode the video and audio under Windows and Linux.

However a working package would be good too.

Any information would be appreciated.
