I was wrong.  It was the problem.  I ran the faulty movies through MPEG 
Streamclip again after selecting "Convert to MPEG with M2 Audio" and it 
worked.  However, it seems to me this used to work okay.  Could that 
have been a previous release of QT or the plug-in?

I also looked to see if I could have MPEG Streamclip default to this 
setting and I couldn't find a way to do that.  I hope I remember to 
select it, although re-running a file that is already in MPEG format is 
pretty quick.
