Well I guess photoshop users will not be supported with future integrations.
Too bad.

That link for the Gimp palettes is:

http://www.appleoldies.ca/cc65/programs/dhgr/palettes/gimp.zip

I'll give until thursday since I hadn't explicitly posted the link.

Ok now the unvarnished truth.

Back to the Adobe stuff... I have a converter coded for produciog Adobe
Color Swatch files from Gimp Palettes and Vice-Versa... I can also extract
palettes from most if not all Apple II format files and produce gimp
palettes and Adobe Color swatches from them.

But that's only the tip of the iceberg.

Problem here is that since nobody else is interested in trying any of this,
even though the results are phenomenal, I am quickly losing interest in
making any of it available.

Except for the demos of course. Then folks can see what they missed.

I ran-up some of the slideshows of photos and artwork converted to DHGR
using this converter on my CF and my Apple IIe yesterday. The results are
amazing on an RGB monitor and probably even better on a composite monitor
although someone else can test that.

The cc65 loader works fantastically on a real IIe of course... I'm satisfied
that the dithering is for the most part doing a proper euclidian distance
using a fairly precise psycho-visual palette match the likes that has not
been seen before on the Apple II in DHGR mode. Honestly it rivals or exceeds
most SHR including images like GIRL256 produced by convert3200.

Old stuff like IIgif does not come close. I won't comment much about what
Sheldon has done.. he was on the right track. There is a considerable amount
of additional understanding needed to take dithering further than arbitrary
palettes which cannot be used in DHGR and not easily without segmented
quantization in SHR, like what Jonas is doing in SimpliFly.

These crappy emulators and file viewers do not do this justice. Their colors
are very out of wack. AppleWin is not the worst. Kegs and CiderPress are
just as bad. The Wikipedia palette is exceptionally good. Sheldon's todhr is
the best outside Wikipedia.

Proof images using the Wikipedia paelette using the new preview mode feature
of what I have here are identical colorwise to orginal photos with 16.7
million colors. The display characteristics of a real Apple //e with RGB
monitor is also very similar allowing that the pyscho-visual is so
completely different from the LED.

I would need to say that the real Apple II looks better, softer, warmer...

This all just seems too good to give away, especially when a community has
no interest.

The deadline for gimp support is thursday. If palettes are not tested, gimp
will not be integrated in future releases.

When I release this, if I release this, I may withdraw it if the community
does not provide some feedback in a reasonably short order.

Bill
