I have a similar problem with the 'new' Gmail, or at least Virgin Media's thinly-rebranded version of it (I don't know if vanilla Gmail has the same issue). For preference, I read my email on RISC OS using Messenger Pro over POP, which is much nicer than any kind of web interface, as well as being very highly configured to my tastes. But sometimes I want to have a look at my inbox when I'm away from home, so I log into the webmail with my laptop. Now, said laptop has a wide screen, which is a polite way of saying it has a very shallow one - 1366x768. Google, or perhaps Virgin, seem unwilling to acknowledge the existence of such resolutions, for fully half the height of the screen is conventionally taken up with an enormous advertisement, leaving me to peer at my email through a scrolling letterbox in the bottom half. Thank god for the basic HTML view, which I switched to the moment I discovered how (Virgin's custom skin disabled the option for some reason, but it's still there if you know what URL to type). -- __<^>__ "Your pet, our passion." - Purina / _ _ \ "Your potential, our passion." - Microsoft, a few months later ( ( |_| ) ) \_> <_/ ======================= Martin Bazley ==========================
