I tried to like jazz and failed. To provide some context I read Kerouac 
and the other Beats at a young age and they were into the '40s and '50s 
bebop musicians. I found the music twitchy and nervous.

'Cool jazz' was a little better but by then the folk revival was well 
underway and that was more my speed. I associate cool jazz with Peter 
Gunn.
