To provide some context I read Kerouac and the other Beats at a young age and they were into the '40s and '50s bebop musicians. I found the music twitchy and nervous. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bebop 'Cool jazz' was a little better but by then the folk revival was well underway and that was more my speed.
