Except, for instance, if you are double booting with Windows. Windows 
could refuse to do some type of updates. It wanted a "normal" MBR.

In that circumstance you could have a generic MBR installed that would 
boot partition 3 or 4, say (even though partition 1 was marked 
bootable), and that partition would have grub installed. In that 
circumstance, grub in a XFS partition (non GPT) doesn't work, breaks.

That's only of historic interest now.
