Did recently download the GNU Modula-2 ... have a book.
   Gotta try it again.

There was Turbo-M2 ... but never fooled much with it
at the time. Just 16-bit code alas. Keep looking
for an M3 compiler that actually WORKS in Linux - M3
was the "improved" M2, but was never much used because
   other 'perfect' langs were emerging.

Your list of the "Languages That LAST" is good ... and
there are good reasons they DID last. I'd add Pascal
to that list. All else, kinda flashes in the proverbial
   pan, so to speak.

BASIC still works however, and the modern versions
ARE capable. There's also "Gambas" but I never fooled
   much with it.

Python is the modern BASIC ... similar niches, but
even more capable. Python is not going to go away.
The last human-writ app will probably be in Python.
