Yeah, my first rodeo with the Microsoft icon editor was pixel by pixel. 
For that matter after you laid out a GUI and looked at the resources file 
everything was absolute positioning.

I don't have anything on the Desktop, just the panel/taskbar. Even on 
Windows I seldom use the Desktop icons. Personal workflow as you say.
