Yes, I owe you an apology, which I hope you will accept.  You did answer 
my question, but I guess I was frustrated because you answer seemed so 
terse.

I was not aware that Ruby had an 'intermediate' level of interactivity 
and could not find "IRB." I tried iruby, rubyi, sruby rubys and finally 
found that page and did not read far enough before being totally frustrated.

Apparently I don't have sufficient experience. I have never seen an 
interactive prompt like that.  I'm more familiar with the Python Shell, 
which is pretty much like IRB.  The other way almost seems like a bug, 
but a bug I have often wished for in Python :P

again, I apologize for my 'snippiness', and I would say it is more a 
reaction to getting my hand slapped every time I have a question in a 
particular group I frequent.  It turns out this particular hand slapper 
does that to everybody, and I shouldn't have assumed that I would get 
the same treatment here.
