You could just catch the exception:

     try:
         arglist.pop(0)
         self.myparm1 = arglist.pop(0)
         self.myparm2 = arglist.pop(0)
         self.myparm3 = arglist.pop(0)
         self.parm4 = arglist.pop(0)
     except IndexError:
         pass
