I don't understand this.  I can understand not liking C and I'm not
trying to pitch it, but the C runtime isn't especially part of the
language, and the "extra stuff" is presumably some assembly language
wrappers to map function calls in your extension language, to the
calling conventions of the host system (that might require certain stuff
in specific registers, for example).  You'd need that for Forth or C
or just about anything else.

You're right about that, I'm not able to understand what you're talking
about ;-).  Tons of system software on many systems is written in C,
Forth, Ada, and other languages.  I'm quite curious what makes System Z
harder than the rest to deal with from other languages.
