Yes, and that description was accurate. An automobile is a carriage
(though we no longer call it that), one that (usually) operates without
a horse.
Automobiles largely replaced both horse-drawn carriages and horses, both
of which were commonly used for transportation.
The argument I'm trying to refute is that, since C was designed to
*replace* assemblers, it *is* an assembler. Similarly, automobiles are
not horses.
