Never had to do anything like that with the Golf and itsstill fine even now after more than 50 years. I was amazed because we helped him move what was quite literally just a pile of rusty metal. It was amazing what he turned it into, just as good as when it was new. My 73 Golf does fine apart from my stupidity with the windscreen leak. and it has never lived under a roof and still doesnt. No body rust at all anywhere except inside in the floor due to the leak.
