Just wondering if anyone has gone with them? are they as good as they say? TPG speed on the 25 mbps plan has dropped from 23mbps to around 17mbps since I started with them a few months ago, and just recently I'm getting buffering with movie streaming. I guess more ppl in the area are now on the NBN causing the speed drop? or would it be just a TPG thing? -- http://thereligionofpeace.com http://www.barenakedislam.com/ http://www.siotw.org

They have some real downsides. They can be a complete pain in the arse to call, can take anything from 30 mins to an hour for the call to be answered and online chat can be worse to get a response. Most of that wouldn’t affect you if you churned from TPG, mate of mine did that on my suggestion in about a week from memory. And if you have FTTP you can have them both simultaneously if you like so no loss of internet. Just cancel with TPG once the MR service is up on the second port on the NTU. Their communication can be quite poor, even when there is a problem with delivering on your signup, they can fail to even tell you that you say need to get the ULL number when migrating from a naked service and only tell you that when you ring them to ask why you arent connected. They can take a month to connect you. SOME customers are seeing a dramatic sag in the download speed from 95 in offpeak times to 5 or even 1 in peak times in the evening and that meaning that stuff like netflix just doesn’t work. They only have the one POP in sydney and the pings arent brilliant even if you are in sydney, 35ms isnt uncommon and can be much worse than that in Perth etc. The static IPs on the gamer plan arent generally australian ones and it can take months for the databases to be updated by some operations like Foxtel so your services can be refused until that happens when they decide that you arent in Australia. The normal plan uses CGNAT for the internal IP which means that there isnt any easy way to run an internal server, but the gamer plan fixes that and only costs $10 more. On the plus side, they are by far the cheapest 100/40 plan around and its unlimited. You can get a lower cost per month if you don’t mine a 12/1 service and fuck all downloads from some other RSPs. I got a 10% reduction in the cost per month, went from 8/1 on adsl2+ to 108/44 on the NBN at the physical level which is 10 times faster download speed and 44 times upload speed. Get 96/30 with speedtest in off peak times. Can sag to 10/30 in peak times, but doesn’t always happen. I have gone for weeks with no sag at all in peak times and I don’t bother with netflix. The modem they supply is very decent and only costs $1 on the standard contract plan. > TPG speed on the 25 mbps plan has dropped from 23mbps to around 17mbps > since I started with them a few months ago, What are you downloading with ? Mate of mine who got a FTTP NBN service with TPG found that that steaming turd of a modem that TPG supplys couldn’t even do 25mbps downloads. They were fine on ethernet. He changed to MR and now gets the full 96/34 all the time. Do you get that poor result first thing in the morning before you go to work ? > and just recently I'm getting buffering with movie streaming. Many RSPs are using Optus Wholesale and they just arent buying enough CVC and are seeing significant sags in peak times. > or would it be just a TPG thing? It can be with congestion. You don’t say if you have FTTN, HFC or FTTP or even fixed wireless.

Yeah, its hard to find any NBN RSP that isnt seeing that with some of their customers. > makes me think it's a NBN thing rather than a ISP thing. Its certainly an NBN thing because of the way CVCs are done and the cost of them. Any NBN RSP has to ensure that what they are paying per month for CVCs is less than what they are receiving from their customers, otherwise they will go broke. > but then I'm no expert on this matter. It is correct in this case. MT and Aussie Broadband are adding a lot more POIs so they have complete control over what CVC capacity they have. Its far from clear how well that will work for an operation like MR which has unlimited downloads. Aussie Broadband doesn’t, it has 1TB download limits and charges quite a bit more per month too. >> They only have the one POP in sydney and the pings arent brilliant >> even if you are in sydney, 35ms isnt uncommon and can be much >> worse than that in Perth etc. >> >> The static IPs on the gamer plan arent generally australian ones >> and it can take months for the databases to be updated by some >> operations like Foxtel so your services can be refused until that >> happens when they decide that you arent in Australia. >> >> The normal plan uses CGNAT for the internal IP which >> means that there isnt any easy way to run an internal server, >> but the gamer plan fixes that and only costs $10 more. >> >> On the plus side, > seems there's quite a bit of minus side tho True, but there arent many that don’t have quite a bit on the minus side too, even the majors like Optarse and Telstra. >> they are by far the cheapest 100/40 plan >> around and its unlimited. Yeah, that’s true of those coming from HFC. But you don’t have any choice on that, the plug will be pulled on HFC. > However, I now have unlimited downloads, which is what I wanted for > netflix, stan, youtube, etc., Its more complicated than that. Just rang myrepublic to enquire about my working phone without a working telephone number( they have me down as having been ported but my old number does not work even though the phone works) I asked her about speed discrepancy between speed tests (did not expect her to know) but she did say they was a slowing effect because of ADSL and fibre being together and when the ADSL connections went things would speed up.

That mangles the real story. That isnt the reason for the difference between speedtest.myrepublic.com.au and speedtest and speedtest beta. There is certainly a coexistence period of around 18 months when the signal levels used by the node are half what they will be once the coexistence period is over, and that may well see the speeds increase with those like you that are a decent part of a km away from the node in total cable distance.

Tho from memory I think you said that you don’t care if you do lose it. > they had my number as being my old number and she rung it and presumably > got the same message that I get (optus advises that the number you have > dialed has been disconnected) I got that a couple of days after the cutover. Before that it just rang out just after the cutover. My neighbour who also moved from dodo to MR didn’t get that result, their number kept ringing out for weeks and has now been ported successfully. Mine was a little unusual in the sense that there was no record of a phone or adsl service to my address at all, even tho I have had the phone service for 45+ years and the adsl service for 15, That may have been why I got a different result to what the neighbour got. Its now not even visible on the Telstra LOLO system that is what's used to observe and change the status of POTS lines, particularly listing them as disconnected and active. When MR tries to port the number from Dodo the port request has been denied repeatedly now, about 5 times over a few weeks. They eventually told me that I had to tell Dodo to do a CDNO or PSTN on the LOLO service to make the line active again so it can be ported to MR. A supervisor at Dodo said that they couldn’t do that when I told them that that is what MR had told me to tell them. Not that clear why they couldn’t do that, whether they could just use LOLO to observe the status of line and whether they can actually use LOLO to change line status. Now another supervisor has said that my number is no longer visible on the LOLO system and that is why they can't do anything. The first supervisor did ring Telstra Wholesale, Dodo resells Telstra, and was told that my number has been returned to Telstra and that there is nothing that can be done to port it to MR now. I find that hard to believe and have to the TIO on the job but havent got a result on that yet. Been with them for a month now. MR keeps claiming that Dodo must have cancelled the phone service but I don’t believe that because Dodo specifically told me not to close the Dodo phone and adsl accounts until the number had been ported to MR otherwise I would lose the number. > She said that they would email me with the number on monday (same as the > other bloke said three days ago,) (he said tomorrow) That did work for me, they did email me a new number and it works fine. Problem is that it’s a Sydney number which is no use to people in my town who need the number to be a local call. MR can only provide new numbers in the capital citys and the total fuckwit of a supervisor in MR with a first name of Karpil didn’t even understand the concept of local calls and couldn’t understand what the problem was with the new number. Presumably he's a Singaporean and that is the reason he doesn’t understand the concept of local calls. >>> I asked her about speed discrepancy between speed tests (did not >>> expect her to know) but she did say they was a slowing effect because >>> of ADSL and fibre being together and when the ADSL connections went >>> things would speed up. >> That mangles the real story. You can see the server used on all but speedtest.myrepublic.com.au And the beta has some other quirks too. Your ping is very low, what do you get with speedtest.myrepublic.com.au ? Mine is always about 35ms. > she added the other bit about speeds >> There is certainly a coexistence period of around 18 months when the >> signal >> levels used by the node are half what they will be once the coexistence >> period is over, and that may well see the speeds increase with those like >> you that are a decent part of a km away from the node in total cable >> distance.

And the copper pair doesn’t even go from the exchange to the house anymore, so there is no copper pair to do that on anymore.
