Use of unreal mode by the BIOS would prevent calling the BIOS in V86
mode for those functions, correct?  PM is likely enabled for V86 for
the PM monitor.  Can enter V86 and use it without causing PM to be
entered again (?) ... perhaps by disabling interrupts?  disable task
switching?

If use of unreal mode by the BIOS prevents calling the BIOS via V86
mode, then the 16-bit BIOS calls are not clean for all V86 mode calls.

I thought the BIOS was supposed to be clean for V86 mode except for PM32
calls and Int 15/AH=87h and Int 15/AH=89h.  One of those functions
enables PM and the other uses PM or unreal mode to copy memory.

How are we supposed to know which BIOS functions work reliably for V86
mode or work on different BIOSes?  Do you just call them to see if they
fail?  Is "present" or "absent" the best we have?
