It was a total flop, lost them Ł2 billion, went bankrupt in 2013 and they sold them to Yucaipa, a private equity company that happens to own a large share of what's left of A&P. When I looked at Fresh & Easy stores, they seemed entirely reasonable little groceries. Dunno why Americans don't like them. The year I lived in England I certainly bought a lot of stuff from the small Tesco, Sainsbury, M&S, and Co-op stores when I didn't want to schlep out to the big ones.
