I get genuine calls from my credit card company asking to verify charges they think are suspicious. Usually the charges are legitimate, but not always. They don't have to ask me for my card number, SS number or anything else to verify the charges. If they find suspicious charges, and can't verify them, then they stop the card I think. Which would be annoying, so I don't want to hang up on them. If I don't answer, they leave a message asking me to call the credit card company at the number on the back of my credit card. But I think if I just hung up on them (repeatedly) the results would be annoying to me.
