But the libbys keep telling us that crime is down?
Hint: it's through the roof no matter what the numbers say.

So, as a born and bred NYC person I will offer some free advice for driving in NYC.

1. Know your surroundings at all times. What is in front, behind, to the left and right of your car.
2. NEVER pull up close to the car in front of you at a light or stop sign.
3. Plan your escape route. What if..... can I go right and get away? Up on the median? Blow the light etc.
4. Windows up and all doors locked. For verts NEVER top down. Ever.
5. Ignore panhandlers, window washers and the like. Don't even look at them.
6. No purse, wallet, money visible.
7. If confronted with people surrounding your car, jumping on hood and so forth, put your
foot firmly on the brake, press the accelerator to the floor,  let off the brake, let the tires smoke
and when the car gains traction drive away as fast as you can bobbing and weaving and doing
whatever it takes to get out of there.
If you are the honest type, stop at a police prescient and explain what happened. If
you are sane, and in NYC I suggest this alternative, get out of there and let whatever
happened be history.
If LEO shows up at your door, the answer is "I was afraid for my life" and then say no more and
call your lawyer.
