  Jörg said "other messengers", not other SMS/MMS apps. You're probably
confused because - being an American - you equate "messenger",
"messages", etc. with 'texting', i.e. SMS.

  But with "messengers", Jörg refers to IM (Instant Messsging) platforms
such as WhatsApp, Signal, Telegram, etc., etc..

  These platforms have had received and read indicator for many, many
years.

  That's why we non-Americans don't get it why you Americans are still
stuck in the - relative - stone age and do not even know/realize what
you're missing.
