Yep. Also there's a top limit on the G4 models.  My Dual 1.25 GHz only 
allowed 1.5GB of memory max. According to:

You machine can hold 1GB in 2 SIM slots.  And throwing away the old 
memory is typical, unless you have something with lots of slots you can 
plug it into.
