Yes cross compiling is likely the only way to compile the code.
The problem with the 64 bit world is 32 bit is no longer tested and may 
break at any time.
Ideally is to have someone who routinely compiles for 32 bit and ideally 
can fix issues or at least bring it up to the developers, who may or may 
not be interested in fixing the issue.
