Light requires a mathematical transformation so perhaps bullets do as well. How can a mathematical transformation do this? They all follow the same transformation, w=(u+v)/(1+uv/c²). When both u and v are very small compared to c, the difference between this and the "obvious" w=u+v is also very small, usually too small to be measurable. Remember, "obvious" in physics is not only not a proof, but often very misleading! The speed combo formula has an interesting property if one of the velocities, say u, is c relative to the object moving at v. In this case the formula becomes w=(c+v)/(1+cv/c²) where v is the velocity of something emitting light at c relative to itself and u replaced by c. It simplifies to w=c. This is a fancy way of showing that light moves at c in all inertial frames regardless of the motion of the source (which is v). For real life experiences, both u and v are very small compared to c, so uv/c² is very very small, so (1+uv/c²) is almost exactly 1. The formula simplifies to w=(u+v)/1 or the "obvious" w=u+v.
