There are statistics available. Maybe someone writes a software that
gives you the specific groups.

One idea would be to set up a small news server on your computer and
set the retention to the amount of days you like. Then check which
groups have more than 1 post.

Additionally, the fact that no traffic happened in a group does not
mean that there are no readers anymore.
Give it a try.
