People have been doing side-channel attacks on cryptography by very accurately measuring the energy consumption of the computers doing the encrypting or decrypting. Long ago, for fun, I did measure the energy consumption of a Z80 (in a ColecoVision) with reasonably high time resolution (current probe on oscilloscope). From the trace of the energy consumption, I could see which instructions were executed.
