The config file options can be any (or all) of no-default-keyring (disables the use of ~/.gnupg/pubring.gpg) keyring /path/to/keyring primary-keyring /path/to/keyring sec-keyring /path/to/keyring Might also have "trustdb-name" set as well If none of those are defined, then gpg(2) _SHOULD_ be pulling from $HOME/.gnupg/pubring.gpg and $HOME/.gnupg/secring.gpg for the keys (and $HOME/.gnupg/trustdb.gpg for the trustdb). > > As for system variables, Yes, it could well be something like that, > but again, I'm flailing.
