(2) You should look for examples in Excelent Documentation(TM) of ffmpeg on-site -- IIRC example of X11 grrabbing was there for years. Can't say if it was a working example back then. (3) Quick swipe through Excelent Documentation(TM) of mplayer/mencoder suggests vain -- the thing just doesn't do it. p.s.
