Other than the last firmware update crapping on rsync (and my being too lazy to do anything about it other than cp -van * /Drobo/TV/ every few days, I've been very happy with the Drobo 5N. It has allowed me to completely unload one machine from any Plex or plex-related duties. I'm considering unloading plex from the other mac mini as well and replacing it with a raspberry pi, a friend has done that and with the hardware encoder it handles the 1080p h.264 perfectly. That will make both machines considerably more responsive for other tasks (liek playing WoW and minecraft). I have 15.something TB in it right now, and it just chugs along. Even with being a NAS it is still not the speediest thing in the world, but it's comparable to most the direct-connected external drives I have. >> I've ordered two Thermaltake dual drive SATA docks (USB 3.0) to replace >> the current Drobo and my USB 2.0 based dual drive dock. > That's a definite step down, IMO; but whatever floats your boat. I've not been at all impressed with USB3. Drive often vanish for no reason (Mac or PC, makes no difference, any manufacturer). The only USB3 device I have that is mostly stable is the Mediasonic. It rarely drops off (but it has done so, probably once a month-6 weeks) and is the fastest of the USB3 drives. I've have seagate and third party external USB3s and I just don't recommend them for most users. -- 'You don't think you've had enough, do you?' he said. I KNOW WHEN I'VE HAD ENOUGH.
