If I can't get scanning via FOSS drivers in Debian I can use the scanning function through my wife's Android devices. (At last the things will be useful! Tee-hee!) The Brother was cheaper than any of the comparable HP MFCs that I found, and I decided that it was time for some experimentation. One downside is the inability to upgrade firmware on the printer without a system running the Mac OS or Windows. I guess if I ever really need a firmware update I can borrow a Windows laptop from a neighbor for a few minutes. Thank you for that link. I'm going to go through that to see if I can learn something! Best, JP
