In a LAN, the computers may be connected together with a switch or hub, neither of which is a router. The difference here is if the network node uses the IP addresses to decide the next-hop destination. A hub sends blindly to all ports except the ingress port, and a switch uses the Ethernet MAC addresses to decide the next-hop target. -- -TV
