The volcano on Montserrat erupted in 1997, killed 19 people, and made 2/3 of the island uninhabitable. It's still erupting, and people still aren't allowed back. The volcano on Martinique erupted in 1902 and buried the largest city on the island, St Pierre, killing about 30,000 people in a few minutes.
