Package: src:linux Version: 4.6.1-1~bpo8+1 Severity: important Dear Maintainer, Unless I add "nomodeset" to the grub (specifically: GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet nomodeset") my pc does not boot (black screen). As a consequence, it is not possible to change screen resolution, to use an external monitor, or to change the brightness. I checked however that everything works fine with Fedora 24: I guess therefore that the solution must be in the open domain by now. Just, I can't find it. I am running Jessie 8.5 (with kernel 4.6.0-0.bpo.1-amd64) on a Thinkpad X1 4th generation. More details can be found below or here: https://wiki.debian.org/InstallingDebianOn/Thinkpad/X1%20Carbon%204thGen %20PCIe_SSD/jessie (I wrote that page). Thanks, Luke -- Package-specific info: ** Version: Linux version 4.6.0-0.bpo.1-amd64 (debian-kernel@lists.debian.org) (gcc version 4.9.2 (Debian 4.9.2-10) ) #1 SMP Debian 4.6.1-1~bpo8+1 (2016-06-14) ** Command line: BOOT_IMAGE=/vmlinuz-4.6.0-0.bpo.1-amd64 root=/dev/mapper/lvmg-root ro intel_pstate=no_hwp quiet nomodeset ** Tainted: E (8192) * Unsigned module has been loaded (currently expected). ** Kernel log: [ 7.541909] Bluetooth: HCI socket layer initialized [ 7.541912] Bluetooth: L2CAP socket layer initialized [ 7.541917] Bluetooth: SCO socket layer initialized [ 7.542242] EFI Variables Facility v0.08 2004-May-17 [ 7.547077] mei_me 0000:00:16.0: enabling device (0000 -> 0002) [ 7.556746] Linux video capture interface: v2.00 [ 7.560017] input: PC Speaker as /devices/platform/pcspkr/input/input8 [ 7.567229] usbcore: registered new interface driver btusb [ 7.572483] Bluetooth: hci0: Bootloader revision 0.0 build 2 week 52 2014 [ 7.580162] Bluetooth: hci0: Device revision is 5 [ 7.580164] Bluetooth: hci0: Secure boot is enabled [ 7.580165] Bluetooth: hci0: OTP lock is enabled [ 7.580166] Bluetooth: hci0: API lock is enabled [ 7.580167] Bluetooth: hci0: Debug lock is disabled [ 7.580168] Bluetooth: hci0: Minimum firmware build 1 week 10 2014 [ 7.582290] bluetooth hci0: firmware: direct-loading firmware intel/ibt-11-5.sfi [ 7.582293] Bluetooth: hci0: Found device firmware: intel/ibt-11-5.sfi [ 7.606849] uvcvideo: Found UVC 1.00 device Integrated Camera (04ca:705a) [ 7.615310] uvcvideo 1-8:1.0: Entity type for entity Extension 4 was not initialized!
