And I'm just waking up - slow.  It's raining.  It's windy - not gusty, 
just a good steady wind about 20-30 mph from the north driving the 
snorain against the window. And it's just getting light outside (30 
minutes to sunrise).

Then, I heard a bumpity bump noise.  It's like the noise you get when 
there's a branch on the roof, or a raccoon, or a bobcat chasing a 
raccoon, or something.  So that woke me up because it might mean I gotta 
drag some junk off the roof so it won't get wrecked, unless it already 
is, which means I'll be up there inspecting, and maybe patching.

Well, I stumbled to the bathroom, did my morning thing, checked the 
thermometer (34F) and heard the noise again but this time it was a 
buppbupp bupp bupp buppbuppbupp noise, which can only mean that the bird 
guys with their camo everything and PFDs and tactical underwear and 
semi-automatic tactical shotguns are out there in the flooded marshes 
defending America from immigrant waterfowls (season opened yesterday).
