OK, there is no standard string type that is actually used, in practical 
Pascal dialects.  AFAIK, the Pascal ISO standard is pretty much ignored 
by all Pascal implementations that are used for real-world coding, which 
mostly derive from Borland Pascal heritage.

(Perhaps I am being overly cynical here - if anyone knows better, I 
would be happy to be corrected.)
