Using a USB device with a driver is a standard method that has been 
around for years.

Using a GUI file explorer to move files is a standard method that has 
been around for years. Command line before that.

By making a dual boot system with Ubuntu, you are basically adding the 
driver support needed and an alternative GUI interface.

Few consider installing GB of files to make a system dual boot to Linux 
just to add a driver a good use of time, effort, or disk space.
