I use rainlendar2. There is a free version but you have to pay a small fee to get the pro version that interfaces to Google Calendar. I think it's great. It displays on the screen your events, if you wish, and will interface to multiple G. Calendars. My wife and I use it on 2 laptops to keep our joint calendars visible as well as on the phone. Thunderbird has a calendar and will interface to G.Calendar too.
