They are welcome.

But many pretend superior knowledge about topics
they have hardly any  clue about except few popular articles or
 books. They have often boosted self-confidence running far ahead
 of their knowledge 

Those are not so welcome.

Unfortunately, many of them are retired engineers, 
who decided to show they understand science better then scientists.

The best us to avoid  the above behaviour patterns. :-)
